In Texas, buildings that are classified as “historic buildings” are provided an exemption on their property taxes in return for the requirement to follow city rules on renovations and maintainance.  Although the program may be necessary and beneficial in certain circumstances, many critics believe the program is too relaxed granting exemptions when not justified.

Although Kansas seems to be moving forward with plans to significantly reduce its income taxes, the results may not be as beneficial as they believe according to a recent report by the Center of Budget and Policy Priorities.

Click here for an interesting article about how some wealthy individuals have found loopholes in the property tax system to significantly reduce their tax liabilities at the expense of others.  These individuals do so by grazing a limited amount of cattle or other livestock to invoke the agriculture/pasture exemption or assessment.
